Dr. Hugo's disappointment.



The Phone rings..... it is right on school time... The worst time for a young family.... Mothers are at their most fragile and children at their most fractious.... better not be a nuisance call.... it is a nuisance call yet again... Is this Dr.X.... No you have the wrong number....the Phone rings again....is that Dr.X.... no you have the wrong number...no I don't....I have the web site in front of me....sorry but the web site is wrong....

The Phone rings again...another patient looking for an urgent appointment with Dr.X .... the early dialogue is repeated.... the phone rings again and again.....this is the time patients can seek urgent appointments under the NHS.

This goes on for weeks....four year old Hugo is fascinated that people ring mama's telephone asking for an appointment with a doctor.....he is fascinated with anyone associated with the medical profession.... his personal visits to the Doctor always includes a session in which his Doctor is interrogated about all matters medical and is shown Hugo's personal medical kit... The latter usually resulting in the Doctor topping it up with all manner of consumables.

The continuous stream of morning calls demand action.... Mama Michelle Google's her telephone number....sure enough it is associated with Dr.X's practice....she rings the telpehone company.. Gets the new number of the practice...rings the practice.... explains the problem....the receptionist is not inclined to be helpful...ring British Telecom she says.....no use says Michelle.... privacy laws mean they can only talk to a representative of the practice.... then ring the web company.... what part of British privacy law do you not understand says Michelle..... sorry cannot help you says the receptionist....hangs up.....

Michelle rings again..... Hugo loiters in the background ......the receptionist answers....Michelle gets her message across....tell your practice manager that unless they fix the telephone number problem I am going to accept appointments when the patients call.... it is Michelle's turn to hang up... Hugo is impressed that mama is going to take appointments... after all he has a fully stocked medical kit and a stethoscope.... Dr Hugo can see them mama!

The Phone rings... the practice manager has appreciated the potential chaos....the problem is fixed overnight.... Dr.Hugo is not impressed that his mama has let a stream of potential patients dissipate.....
