Las Vegas

The penguins are over travel... Grin and bear it they tell one another...

Raining... Glad we ordered that car last night... The car arrives on time... At La Guardia in a flash... United checkin makes Norwegian look like they are amateurs... Pay the additional baggage fees.. Resolve not only never to use Expedia again but to make sure their marketing manager knows about the chaos that they cause at airport checkins...

Transit at Houston... Board on time... Sit in the take-off queue for an hour... Someone needs to tell the aircraft controllers that there are people on the planes... I am sure they will claim safety but if 30 planes are allowed to join a take-off queue then someone is not doing their job....

Japanese expatriate taxi driver eases the wounds of baggage claim at Las Vegas airport... 25 years... Still speaking broken English....

The Venetian looks just a little tired... Not exhausted... Just feeling like it would like to have a day off... Don't touch the contents of the mini bar says the receptionist... Touch it and your credit card squeals.... Wander off with our bags... Through the impressive entrance corridor... Huge vaulted frescoed ceilings... Shiny polished Italian marble floors... Past the casino floor... Steer the cases between slot machines.. Signs say... Over 18 only... Children everywhere.... More machines... Plenty of ATM's within arms reach of poker machines... You can hear the Venetian masters clearly telling you that their some ambition is to relieve the visitor of the contents of both wallets and bank accounts.. The suite at last.. Nice...

Wander the Venetian... An unreal world... Enormous... Venetian theme throughout... Tourists line up to ride in gondolas through shop lined artificial canals... Let's be positive... The canals are cleaner than those that they imitate... The tourists pose for photographs in front of replicas of Venetian landmarks...

The local tourists... Not the well healed Americans... They must enter by another door... The ones we see are working class in the majority... The obviously international tourists represent the world over... Some well healed treating Vegas as a must do... Some not so well healed... For them clearly a trip of a lifetime... They enjoy... enjoy... Clearly Vegas has lived up to their expectations...

Talk to a bride... hope the marriage lives up to her expectations...

The penguins play some machines... Leave an appropriate contribution to the retirement funds of the Venetian masters..... Enjoy the glitz but the effect on them does not compare to their first visit 25 years ago... Whose fault is that?
