A visit to the Tate Modern... Penguin number one is enthusiastic.... Penguin number two not so enthusiastic but determined to try to enjoy... PN1.... Wanders... Looks... Looks again... Photographs... Occasionally comments... PN2... Looks.. Asks a piece what it is trying to say to him ... The piece just hangs there ... Silent... Arrogant... If you don't know what I am saying then don't bother coming... PN2 thinks the piece might have just been out of sorts so he asks another piece the same question... He gets the same non response... He tries... He tries again... He rapidly becomes despondant.... He looks at his fellow voyeurs... They wander.. They look... Not a smile to be seen... Aren't the pieces supposed to be saying something to them... Making them feel something... If indeed there is communication twixt piece and voyeur then there is little external evidence of it... PN2 becomes even more dispondant... A dreadful thought occurs to him... His total lack of art appreciation may lead to a failure on the part of the Artie-Farties to turn a blind eye when he steals a cake from their morning tea tray... He retreats to the coffee shop... At least there is an occasional smile at the tables.... The penguins discuss his dispondancy... PN1 says... People are just internalising their conversations with the pieces... It's like being in a library or in a church... You are not supposed to be doing cartwheels... There are ways to behave she says... The discussion does little to alleviate PN2's state of dejection.. There is no hope for him! -

At last a piece that PN2 understands... Understand?... Yes... Likes what it does to people?... NO!... The attractive powers of the piece persists... PN1 is drawn to it for her own selfie... It is only for the blog she says..
